Culminating Blog Reflection

I used critical thinking , communication, collaboration and creativity to complete all aspects of my senior project. I went into depth  to find out what a nursing home was like on the inside and what it takes to run a nursing home. I understood the strength required to be in a climate in which you cannot for attachment nor show an emotion in which makes you look like a robot. I got insight about what a nursing home means to elderly people and the company owners.
Socially, I gained first hand experience on the needs of elderly people and how to communicate with them when they have Alzheimer and how to react to certain behaviors. Personally, I got a self satisfaction to see the elderly peoples happiness and joy in having my company. It personally helped me figure out how little I can do for a person yet it can be so grateful to them. Intellectually I learned that this job isn't just a everyday job. Its a job that helps you make someone's life either better or worse and the littlest you do can change/save a persons life.

Challenges I encountered were Time management, Making sure people don't fight and not getting attached. To over come the time management I had to sit down and think real hard on what's my first priority and so on. It helped me learn to juggle things around and keep myself busy. Another was when fights would happen among elderly people. It was very rare but I trained myself on how to react to certain fights and how to approach the person that was really stressed or tense. The Attachment stage in the challenge process wasn't really successful for me but I tried really hard to make sure I kept a distance but gave a sufficient amount of attention.

Overall volunteering was an amazing experience I got to do and it made me really reconsider my future goals. With all the stress and happiness that comes with this job I don't think I would be able to run my own company but in the future I would really reconsidered volunteering again.
