I used critical thinking , communication, collaboration and creativity to complete all aspects of my senior project. I went into depth to find out what a nursing home was like on the inside and what it takes to run a nursing home. I understood the strength required to be in a climate in which you cannot for attachment nor show an emotion in which makes you look like a robot. I got insight about what a nursing home means to elderly people and the company owners.
Socially, I gained first hand experience on the needs of elderly people and how to communicate with them when they have Alzheimer and how to react to certain behaviors. Personally, I got a self satisfaction to see the elderly peoples happiness and joy in having my company. It personally helped me figure out how little I can do for a person yet it can be so grateful to them. Intellectually I learned that this job isn't just a everyday job. Its a job that helps you make someone's life either better or worse and the littlest you do can change/save a persons life.
Challenges I encountered were Time management, Making sure people don't fight and not getting attached. To over come the time management I had to sit down and think real hard on what's my first priority and so on. It helped me learn to juggle things around and keep myself busy. Another was when fights would happen among elderly people. It was very rare but I trained myself on how to react to certain fights and how to approach the person that was really stressed or tense. The Attachment stage in the challenge process wasn't really successful for me but I tried really hard to make sure I kept a distance but gave a sufficient amount of attention.
Overall volunteering was an amazing experience I got to do and it made me really reconsider my future goals. With all the stress and happiness that comes with this job I don't think I would be able to run my own company but in the future I would really reconsidered volunteering again.

Today is My last day and I spent my day fileing and doing work for my mentor personally rather then with the elderly people. I filed birthday cards and various occasion for them. It was a wide range from Christmas to Holidays to valentines to Anniversaries. The cards were really pretty and donated from people who had extra. Some were really old and needed to be thrown away and some were really shiny and nice. I spent from 1pm to 5pm Doing this because there was a LOT of cards

April 10 2013 (3:30pm-6:30pm) Total Hours : 20 hours and 10 mins
Today the elderly people are excited because my mentor Anne Marie has hired a live musician to come and play music while the elderly people ate food. I helped him set up and he told me about how he grew up with only one instrument and barely enough money to get food so he would go play on the streets. He told the elderly people about it and some looked down upon him because I guess it was "bad" to do that back in the days and some music lover elderly people admired him and were very pleased to have him there.

April 3 2013 (3:50-5:30) Total Hours: 17 hours and 10 mins
On this day I came to my volunteer at 3:50pm and left at 5:30. Between that time the elderly people I was working with were having story time. The stories we were reading were about many different types of animals and how they had human characteristics In the beginning every one was highly fascinated but as the stories began to stretch and get longer the people got bored. They began to fall asleep, walk away, or just sit there and space off. Some had a hard time hearing so they were getting aggravated. Others just had a short attention span and would leave. and the rest were just really tired from their day.
